Winter at The Beach

So far our first Winter in Port Aransas is amazing.  There is something about the beach that makes each day better. Our beaches are clean and beautiful.  The City of Port Aransas takes great care of its beaches.  Although we are in the middle of winter, it is not so bad here.  We had a weekend of 70 degree days.  The water was beautiful.  I could sit by the water for hours.  It is peaceful - the sounds, the waves, and even the way the birds nose dive trying to catch their lunch.  We watched a fisherman catch a trout in the surf.  A group of teenagers were playing football.  A small group worked on their sandcastle skills.  I am not as brave as several children we saw playing in the water.  The current water temperature has reached mid-50s.  I remember being young when cold water did not affect my desire to swim, but I want to believe I am older and wiser now.  In a couple of months we will all be back in the water, but for now I will enjoy our beach and be an observer.

Preparations for 2013

As 2012 comes to a close, it is amazing the changes we have been through this year.  Steve and I sold our house in Pflugerville and moved to Port Aransas.  For years we hoped to open a bed & breakfast.  This year we realized we aren't getting any younger; so, we worked diligently to make our dreams a reality.  After lots of research, we understood the B&B way of life.  We understand that it is not a way to accumulate great wealth.  It is a calling.  It is hard work, but rewarding.  We love taking care of guests and family.  I get great satisfaction when people rave about Steve's cooking.   I appreciate when others also realize how amazing he is.  After weighing all the pros and cons, we decided to jump into the B&B world.  Location was the first decision we needed to make.  We knew Texas is the only place we want to be.  Also, we hoped to be near or at the coast.  We always enjoyed our Port Aransas vacations.  We agreed it was the logical choice.  After looking at too many properties to name, we stumbled upon our future home.  It was not listed on any of the websites we had searched.  Our realtor knew nothing about it.  We made a turn down the street to look at one house, and found a house that was for sale by owner.  It was perfect for us.  We made our offer and the rest as they say is history.  We have spent the last 2 months of 2012 making preparations for our new venture.  Our website finally went up last week.  We are excited and ready for 2013.
